It’s very important to know the value of the book and make it interesting. But also, sometimes you have to go beyond the book and try to create something more interesting. Each book has a unique curriculum that reflects its educational system. A curriculum must carry a purpose or a goal to be accomplished and achieved educational experiences that help in reaching the purpose and it must be effectively organized in order to make the purpose concrete, measurable, and achieved.
The content of the book helps the teacher in achieving the goals
of the course and it should fit the students’ background in terms of age,
educational background, motivation or purpose for learning English, since the
lessons in any book should be related to real life aspects that we can see it
outside the classroom, and that the students can experience it in their daily
lives.
Any English text book and in each lesson, the four skills which
are listening, speaking, reading and writing should be integrated together. For
example, in each lesson students have to read the lesson, they have listening
and speaking activities maybe with the partner or they have to listen to a
video tape and then discuss it with the teacher or the partner, and then they
have to write a paragraph or essay related to the theme of the story. But the activities on the 4 skills
differentiate from one lesson to another, so there is a variety of exercises
and activities on integrating these skills.
